Gloomy sentiment weaken Nifty by 12 points; 1181.30

Pivotals continued their downtrend on sustained buying support by foreign institutional investors or FIIs and bull operators in a depressed sentiment during trading at the National Stock Exchangae today.

Reflecting the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty lost by 11.85 points to close at 1181.30 points from 1193.15 points of the previous day.

The CNX Nnifty Junior shed 25.80 points to close at 1933.30 points from 1959.10 points while S&P CNX Defty lost by 11.25 points to 944 points.

The S&P CNX 500 index shifted lower by 6.40 points to 799.35 points and CNX Midcap 200 depreciated by 6.05 points to 684.10 points from 690.15 points.

Total turnover, involving 80.29 million shares in 269,229 trades, was Rs 20.32 billion and the debentures traded were valued at Rs 3.31 million.

Today, 353 securities gained, 584 declined, 69 remained unchanged while 38 securities hit their price bands today.

The top S&P CNX Nifty gainers were: ICICI shot up by 2.39 per cent to Rs 75.10 from 73.35, Tisco 2.04 per cent to Rs 142.60 (139.75), Telco 1.48 per cent to Rs 209.15 (206.10), Infosys Technologies 1.09 per cent to Rs 3464.40 (3427.15) and IFCI 1.05 per cent to Rs 14.45 (14.30).

The top losers included Grasim which eased by 5.13 per cent to Rs 234.90 from Rs 247.60, Indian Hotel 4.70 per cent to Rs 348.05 (365.20), East India Hotel 4.58 per cent to Rs 219.75 (230.30), Hindustan Petroleum 3.93 per cent to Rs 259.05 (269.65) and Indian Rayon 2.77 per cent to Rs 156.10 (160.55).
