Investment sentiment hit following Gujarat violence, says CII

BS Regional Bureau

The Confederation of Indian Industry has condemned both the Godhra incident and the resultant communal violence in Gujarat following a review of the prevailing situation with top industry leaders from the state.

Expressing concern and serious worry both for Gujarat as well as for the image of India, CII Gujarat council chairman F B Virani said: "Such incidents are bound to have an adverse impact on investment sentiment and growth of our economy, which we cannot afford at this critical stage of development."

What is needed urgently is to rebuild confidence in industry and investors through expediting rehabilitation work and to demonstrate clearly the urgent steps undertaken to return to normalcy in the next two weeks, he added.
