Last Updated: April 26, 2006 15:32 IST

As part of its education grants and donations programme, Sun Microsystems India on Wednesday rolled out the second edition of its Sun Matching Grant Programme in the country.

Through this initiative, Sun will provide a series of hardware, software and web-based training material, which will allow an unlimited number of Indian educational institutions and students to benefit from its technology.

Last year, 45 educational institutions signed up for the co-investment programme under which Sun donates equipment, whose value has to be matched by a similar investment from the educational institution or partnering aid organisation, company executives said.

"The roll out of this programme is a significant undertaking that will benefit the Indian student community by creating skilled technical professionals who contribute to the economy of our country," Sun Microsystems senior officials Mohan Doss and K P Unnikrishnan told reporters in Bangalore.
