Sensex ends up 375 points; RCom gains 5.3% May 15, 2008 17:08 IST The Sensex opened with positive gap of 107 points at 17,085 following a positive close in the US markets. The index finally ended with a gain of 375 points at 17,353. The market breadth was fairly positive - out of 2,755 stocks traded, 1,772 advanced, 909 declined and the rest were unchanged. The NSE Nifty moved up 103 points to close at 5,115. INDEX MOVERS... Hindalco [Get Quote] soared 6% to Rs 204. Reliance Communications [Get Quote] surged 5.3% to Rs 589, and Larsen & Toubro gained 4.7% to Rs 2,963. Reliance, ICICI Bank [Get Quote] and Infosys [Get Quote] advanced 3.6% to Rs 2,623, Rs 929 and Rs 1,891, respectively. DLF, Maruti [Get Quote] and BHEL moved up around 3% each to Rs 644, Rs 823 and Rs 1,800, respectively. Ambuja Cements was up 2.5% at Rs 112. HDFC [Get Quote], Jaiprakash Associates [Get Quote] and ACC gained 2.2% each to Rs 2,793, Rs 266 and Rs 682, respectively. Cipla and Reliance Infra were up around 2% each at Rs 214 and Rs 1,451. respectively. TCS [Get Quote], Grasim [Get Quote], ONGC [Get Quote], SBI [Get Quote] and Wipro [Get Quote] were the other major gainers today. ...AND THE SHAKERS Satyam [Get Quote] tumbled 3.4% to Rs 484. Hindustan Unilever plunged 1.9% at Rs 239, and Tata Motors [Get Quote] slipped 1.5% to Rs 663. MOST ACTIVE COUNTERS Aishwarya Telecom led the value chart with a turnover of Rs 886.39 crore followed by Reliance Communications (Rs 258.86 crore), Reliance (Rs 179.39 crore), Reliance Petroleum [Get Quote] (Rs 163.10 crore) and Satyam (Rs 158.31 crore). Aishwarya Telecom, also, topped the volume chart with trades of around 7.05 crore shares followed by IFCI (2.19 crore), Ispat (1.09 crore), Cybermat (1.08 crore) and Reliance Natural Resources [Get Quote] (1.03 crore).
