He has had no release in the last four years but his latest film is expected to be a huge draw at the box office.

Aamir Khan, last seen in Ashutosh Gowariker's Oscar-nominated Lagaan and Farhan Akhtar's Dil Chahta Hai, will now be seen in the historical, Mangal Pandey, scheduled to release on August 12.

He explains his long absence from the big screen. "I went through a personal crisis. That's why I didn't do any film for the first two years," he says, referring to his divorce from wife Reena Dutta.

"After that, it took another two years to complete Mangal Pandey with director Ketan Mehta," he explains.

Aamir spoke to Chief Correspondent Syed Firdaus Ashraf about Mangal Pandey and his future plans.

How long did it take for your moustache to grow?

It took six months for my moustache and 18 months for my hair to grow. I didn't want to use a wig. Besides, Mangal Pandey cannot have today's physique. So I have a gawthi (villager) look.

Who was the happiest person to see you without the moustache?

I think Rakesh Mehra because he was finally convinced I am doing his film, Rang De Basanti.
