Marriage and Britney Spears don't quite go together.

While the popstar embraced her wedding with Kevin Federline in September 2004 with great gusto, calling herself Mrs Federline with pride, things seemed to have fizzled out hardly 700 days later.

Last year, she gave birth to first son Sean Preston, and just two months ago the couple had their second child, Jayden James.

But as Spears became a family woman she soon found herself inched out of the tabloids, with names like Beyonce, Shakira and Lindsay Lohan competing for the world's eyes. Federline, meanwhile, made a disastrous foray into rap music, with an album bankrolled by his wife.

After denying the rumours long enough, Spears filed for divorce on November 7, citing irreconcilable differences.

Media reports speculate the intense will-split-won't-split tabloid pressure on their relationship broke it down. It remains to be seen if the very same tabloids will rally to Spears' aid now.
