How Net savvy are you on a scale of one to ten?
I'm extremely Net savvy. I was the sixth person in the country to get a Net connection. I know my way around; in fact it is so difficult not to know your way around the Net.
What do you enjoy doing online?
Researching for my show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. I also use MSN to chat with my friends in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia... Besides, I play games online, download stuff and do a lot of emailing.
What's your daily routine like? How much time do you spend online?
Computers are a passion with me. For something or the other I am almost always online. One phone connection is dedicated only to the Net.
What's your idea of a perfect Web site?
It should also be user friendly, not very complicated and easy to access. Even a child should be able to find his way around the site. It should give maximum info.
Any favourite sites?
Some of the Indian sites are wonderful. I think compareindia.com is a cleverly laid out, brilliant site. All the research is done for you. If you wanna buy a new fridge, at the click of a button you have all the prices and other features laid out.
Ever been ego-surfing?
I'm not very much into that. I did that a few months ago though. There is a Web site of my show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal. We receive a lot of feedback from viewers.
Is there something you'd like to buy or sell online?
No. I've never bought anything online. But I do check out prices and models and other info about items.
What's your favourite Web-based gadget?
I have four computers, which I use for different reasons. One just for playing games, another for surfing, the third for my show, photos and scans and the fourth for archival material and logs of our company. I have a laptop as well.
The IntelliMouse from Microsoft is just brilliant. You don't need a mouse pad. You can use it on your body, your clothes, your jeans, just anywhere - it's also great for surfing.
What do you hate most about the Internet?
I hate getting disconnected, especially when I'm playing a game. It affects one's rating.
Ever chatted with strangers?
Only some of the strangers I play backgammon with. And now most of them have become buddies.
Is there any one celebrity you'd love to chat online with?
No, I'd rather talk to them face-to-face on Rendezvous.
Any strange experience online?
Once while playing backgammon, one player was acting pretty atrocious. He was not abiding by the rules. I gave him a tough time.
If you could change anything about the Internet, what would it be?
I believe the Net is not as private as we like to believe it is. I wish there was some kind of system to ensure privacy.
Have you traded stocks or downloaded music online?
No stocks. Music, yes.
If the Net didn't exist…
Dunno -- commit suicide maybe? I'd definitely go bananas!
