General Musharaff says no to Benazir

E-Mail this report to a friend

Pakistan's military command has turned down former prime minister Benazir Bhutto's request for a safe passage to that country.

In an attempt to join the new set-up under the military command, Bhutto had assured her support and requested the army chief, through a mutual friend, to provide her safe passage.

The military command refused to oblige, as it did not want to jeopardise its credibility by supporting a convict.

Bhutto was convicted for five years by the Lahore high court on charges of corruption.
