TN CM behind Rajakumar's abduction: Jaya

E-Mail this report to a friend

All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo Jayalalitha Wednesday accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi of "engineering" Kannada actor Raj Kumar's abduction to divert public and media attention from his administrative failures.

In a statement released today the former TN chief minister demanded that the Centre constitute a separate task force to encircle Veerappan's hide-out and eliminate him.

She asked both the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka governments to reject the forest brigand's demands. "If the demands are accepted more persons will start emulating Veerappan to make ransom demands after abducting VIPs," she said.

She denied journalist-emissary R R Gopal's statement that Veerappan was given ransom when she was chief minister for the release of those abducted by him.

She alleged that by tying the hands of the Special Task Force, Veeerappan had been able to move about freely resulting in the LTTE and other extremist outfits joining hands with him.
