Pakistan government insincere: Abdullah

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah has asked Pakistan to create a conducive atmosphere for talks with New Delhi by ending hostilities on the border and stopping infiltration of militants into the state.

''The Pakistani people may be keen to normalise relations with India but their government is not sincere in materialising this," Abdullah said in an interaction with a group of Women's Initiative for Peace in South Asia led by Nirmla Despande, who called on him last evening.

The Pakistan government has "two faces - that of a friend and a foe", he said, adding on the one hand they talk of friendship in Lahore and on the other they engineer border incursions in Kargil.

The chief minister said the Pakistan government has not reconciled with realities and unless they don't have an understanding of the situation, things cannot move towards normalcy.

Abdullah, however, felt that steps for achieving normalisation of relations between the two countries should continue.

He charged the Hurriyat Conference leaders with exploiting the masses for their vested interests and said they were implementing the agenda of Pakistan at the cost of miseries to their brethren.

"Hurriyat leaders are not suffering from terrorism or protests but it is the man on street who suffers," he added.
