Longest kidnap drama by Veerappan

Kannada film icon Dr Rajakumar spending 109 days in the captivity of forest brigand Veerappan is the longest-ever abduction drama enacted by the bandit.

When Veerappan abducted Dr Rajakumar from his farm house at Gajanur in Tamil Nadu on July 30, it was the ninth kidnap venture of the sandalwood smuggler.

Barring in August 1989, when he killed three forest department staff whom he had taken hostage, the bandit had never harmed the captives in other kidnap incidents involving him.

The longest time that hostages had spent in Veerappan's custody earlier had been 44 days by nine Karnataka forest department staff in 1997.
