Krishna convenes all-party meeting on Monday

E-Mail this report to a friend

With the five-week long hostage crisis involving Kannada film star Dr Rajakumar showing no sign of blowing over, the Karnataka government has convened an all-party meeting on Monday to discuss the kidnap episode.

Prior to the all-party floor leaders' meeting scheduled at 1500 hours (IST) at the Vidhan Soudha, the state secretariat, Chief Minister S M Krishna has summoned an emergency cabinet meeting on Monday morning to take stock of the situation arising out of the July 30 abduction of the thespian and three others by the Veerappan gang.

Monday's cabinet and all-party meetings come in the backdrop of the Supreme Court on Friday staying indefinitely the release of 30 associates of the bandit and the latest video cassette sent by Veerappan.

Krishna had on Saturday said the cassette contained no fresh demands. Veerappan had only reiterated his earlier demands.

Krishna also said that the state's counsels had been asked to continue efforts towards early disposal of the Special Leave Petition - filed by Abdul Karim, father of a police sub-inspector killed in an ambush by the Veerappan gang in 1992 - on which the apex court had passed the stay order.
