E-Mail this report to a friend

An Orissa sessions court on Monday framed charges against Dara Singh and 13 others in connection with the killing of Australian missionary Graham Stuart Staines and his two sons at Manoharpur in January last year.

Khurda sessions judge Mahendranath Patnaik framed charges under several Sections of the IPC including 302 (read with 149), 120 b, 148, 435 (read with 149) and 436 (read with 149).

The court fixed December 1 as the date for commencement of trial of the accused.

Dara was brought from the Circle jail at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district to Bhubaneswar for production before the court.

Earlier, the judge rejected a petition filed by Dara's counsel praying for discharge as there was no evidence against him.

A similar petition filed by another accused, Umakanta Bhoi, was also rejected by the court.
