Observe bandh peacefully: Rajakumar

Journalist emissary and Tamil magazine Nakkeeran editor R R Gopal, who had entered the Sathyamangalam forest on Tuesday evening, is continuing negotiations with forest brigand Veerappan to secure the release of Kannada actor Dr Rajakumar and three others held hostage by him since July 30.

Nakkeeran associate editor Kamaraj said that magazine reporter Subbu, who had accompanied Gopal, had said that the emissary was hopeful of convincing the brigand to release the hostages.

This has also been conveyed to the chief ministers of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, Kamaraj said.

Gopal has also sent an audiocassette through Subbu, containing an appeal from Rajakumar to his wife, the people of Karnataka and his fans, asking them to observe the September 28 bandh peacefully.

He said observing a bandh at the time of the Dassera festival would affect the normal life of people.

He appealed to his fans, his wife and his sons not to create any problem for the government and ensure that the people were not put to hardship during the bandh.

Rajakumar expressed hope that with the blessings of Goddess Chamundeswari, he would be released by Veerappan during the festival.

He said if his wife was taken care of well, he would also be fine.

Meanwhile, all schools and colleges will be closed on Thursday in view of the bandh.
