Indefinite curfew in Manipur; no fresh violence

Army and para-military forces were patrolling sensitive areas in Imphal on Tuesday, after Monday's violence and arson left 13 dead.

Indefinite curfew has been clamped in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts.

Tension continued to prevail in parts of the state capital.

Official sources said security has been tightened apprehending trouble during handing over of bodies of those killed in Monday's police firing.

A report from Bishnupur said the body of a victim from the district was handed over to family members. As people gathered on the site, security forces apprehending trouble forced several shops to close down.

Thirteen people were killed and over 50 injured when police opened fire in Imphal on demonstrators protesting against the extension of Naga ceasefire to Manipur.
