India must have missiles with longer range: RSS

Fakir Chand in Bangalore

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudarshan on Friday exhorted that India should go for missiles with longer range as a deterrent to other countries, especially China.

Reacting to the successful test firing of Agni-3 missile on Friday, Sudarshan said that the country should be prepared for any eventuality.

He was speaking at a 3-day RSS camp being held in Bangalore

"Today, there may not be any threat from China or other countries in the region. But who knows about tomorrow? We should be prepared to counter any such threat. Shorter-range missiles may take care of Pakistan. But we cannot be complacent," he thundered.

Referring to the deployment of missiles by China in Tibet, Sudharshan said they were aimed at almost every major city in India. "Do you know that? Why shouldn't we have similar long-range missiles so that the enemy will think twice before attacking our cities," he asked.

Asked whether the build-up on the Indo-Pak border was a cause for concern, Sudharshan said the country needed to be at vigil. "We cannot afford to take chances any more with an unfriendly neighbour like Pakistan. We have seen enough of cross-border terrorism and bloodshed. Though India is never for war, we have to be prepared to defend the country at any cost," he added.
