At delegation-level talks between visiting External Minister Jaswant Singh and his Chinese counterpart Tang Jiaxuan, it was decided that China will encourage its nationals, wishing to visit foreign lands, to travel to India.
During talks on Friday, the first day of Singh's five-day official visit to China, both sides also expressed willingness to relax rules and regulations to enable 'free exchanges' between nationals of the two neighbours.
Following the meeting, Singh told mediapersons that both sides expressed confidence that bilateral economic and cultural relations would be further strengthened.
Terming as 'insignificant' the existing $36 billion bilateral trade between the two nations, Singh said he would discuss the issue of imparting a fillip to bilateral trade with Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji.
In this context, it must be mentioned that a Chinese company has started a direct air link between New Delhi and Beijing.
China Eastern Airways will service the New Delhi-Beijing-New Delhi route twice a week. So far, no one has sought to fill the gap from the Indian side.
