A trial court in Delhi on Friday fixed April 29 for delivering the verdict on the plea for cancellation of the bail of Sushil Ansal and Gopal Ansal, the owners of Uphaar cinema.

The Association of Victims of Uphaar Fire Tragedy had filed a case of criminal negligence against the owners and some other persons accusing them of tampering with evidence in the fire tragedy in which 59 people, including 25 children were killed on Junde 13, 1997. Sushil Ansal was not present in court as he had to attend a FICCI meeting and Gopal Ansal stayed away citing ill health.

They Association had moved the  application after an inquiry ordered by the court established that the accused had removed important documents from the court records, which included four cheques issued by the Ansals that had a direct bearing on the criminal case going on in Additional Sessions Judge Mamta Sehgal's court.

On Thursday, a bench of the Delhi high court had told them, and various government agencies, to compensate the kin of the victims of the tragedy.
