Kalam's assent to Maharashtra Right to Information Bill

President of India A P J Abdul Kalam on Monday gave his assent to the Maharashtra Right to Information Bill, 2000.

The assent converts the bill into a law, operative throughout the State with retroactive effect -- from September 23, 2000.

The Maharashtra governor had recommended to the Centre the consideration of the Maharashtra Right to Information Bill, 2002 which was passed recently by the state legislature.

The Act has been published in Maharashtra Government Gazette (Extraordinary) dated 11th August 2003.
