Six persons were sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday in a Bhagalpur riots case, in which 11 people, including seven women, were killed in 1989.
Third Additional District and Sessions judge, Bhagalpur, R C Jha, acquitted nine others in the case.
Eleven persons were killed in Tamoni village under the Kjerli police station in Nathnagar block in Bhagalpur district in Bihar in 1989.
The village was witness to one of the most gruesome incidents in the month-long dance of death in Bhagalpur that year that left over 1,200 dead and twice as many injured.
According to a prosecution lawyer, 811 complaints were filed with the police after the Bhagalpur riots. The police filed 302 charge sheets and the lower courts disposed of 152 cases, acquitting the accused in 119.
