The vigilance branch of the Delhi police on Monday raided the office of the deputy commissioner, crime branch, and seized computers, floppies and office files.
Acting on instructions from Police Commissioner R S Gupta, Joint Commissioner (vigilance) Kanwaljit Deol conducted the raid.
According to Deol, the raid became necessary after it was found that the office of the deputy commissioner had become a source of leaks to journalists and unauthorised persons.
"The leaks in some matters pertained to important cases that were being handled by the crime branch and in other it was routine information," she said.
She denied that M S Upadhye, who was recently elevated to the rank of additional commissioner, was questioned by his seniors about the alleged leaks. "We certainly did not interrogate Upadhye. If some newspaper questioned him I do not know," she added.
Deol declined to go into the details of the seizures made during the raids or say any more about the nature of action her department proposed to take against those found guilty of leaking information to the media.
