The Delhi high court on Monday dismissed the anticipatory bail application of Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi who has been named one of the accused in the illegal human trafficking case.

"Nothing survives in the petition since Daler has applied for a regular bail in the court concerned at Patiala," Justice S K Agarwal said.

He also directed Daler's surety Ravinder Kumar, also his advocate, to produce the singer before the Patiala police.

The judge took serious objection to Kumar standing surety for his client and asked him to take necessary remedial measures to correct the violation of the law.

Atul Nanda, Advocate General of Punjab government, assured the court that the accused would be given full protection in Patiala if he appeared before the police.

He gave this assurance after the judge told him about Daler's statement that he apprehended a threat to his life.

"Your lordship they have not given us even the surety amount Fixed Deposit receipt Rs 500,000. The accused was provided with full protection when he appeared on October 28. But the accused failed to appear before the investigating agency on October 31," Nanda said.

Mehndi's counsel said his client had cooperated with the Patiala police on October 27 and 28 and had surrendered his passport as per the direction of the court when it gave anticipatory bail for ten days to the singer last month.

Nanda argued that no relief should be provided to Daler as he had failed to appear before the Patiala police on October 31.

"He has also moved the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Patiala for regular bail," he said.
