Samajwadi Party MP Abu Asim Azmi on Tuesday denied that his son Farhan Azmi, detained in Dubai, was in possession of drugs and clarified that Farhan was detained for being in a group in which one person was caught with drugs.

Farhan, along with Prashant Dandekar, Bonnie Chhabria and Shaan Sippy, was picked up from a hotel in Dubai on drug-related charges on October 21.

Abu Azmi said his son had gone to Dubai to look for a cook for their restaurant at Colaba in south Mumbai. Farhan owns Hotel Koyla and Hotel Basilico in south Mumbai.

"My son did not possess drugs and is likely to be released soon. One of Farhan's friend was in possession of drugs," Azmi told PTI in Mumbai.

"I'm unaware about whether my son smokes cigarettes and I was shocked to know the charges he was detained for," he said. "My son had earlier called up and said he was detained for driving, but later it transpired he was detained for some other reason. I'm angry with my son and would not go personally to Dubai to secure his release."

Bonnie's father, automobile designer Dilip Chhabria, too has said his son was not in possession of drugs.

Meanwhile, police sources in Mumbai said the hotel, from where the four were picked up, belongs to an alleged underworld character Iqbal Mirchi.
