Three Uttar Pradesh officials allegedly involved in the irregularities in the Taj Heritage Corridor project were on Thursday suspended.
They are former chief secretary D S Bagga, former principal secretary to the then chief minister Mayawati P L Punia and former state environment secretary V K Gupta. One more official, principal secretary (environment) R K Sharma, had been suspended some time back.
Chief Secretary A P Singh said the state government has initiated an enquiry to probe their role in the scam. The report will be out on January 18, 2004. The inquiry committee comprises Hamendra Kumar, a retired secretary of the government of India, and V K Mittal, chairman of the UP Jal Nigam.
Meanwhile, the CBI, probing the case on a Supreme Court directive, on Thursday gave a copy of its report to the chief secretary.
The Supreme Court had on September 18 directed the CBI to register an FIR against Mayawati and her then ministerial colleague Nasimuddin Siddiqui for alleged irregularities and malpractices in the Rs 175 crore project.
