Suspended Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti met party president Lal Kishenchand Advani for the second time in two days on Thursday night and expressed "regret" over her conduct at a party meeting last month.
Bharti's outburst at the meeting on November 10 had resulted in her suspension.
The second meeting comes amidst rumours of a scathing 'letter' Uma wrote to Advani blasting the second rung of party leadership.
Party sources said her "unconditional apology" could now pave way for revocation of her suspension.
"Yesterday [Wednesday] I met Advani and held discussions with him. In continuation of it, I met him today [Thursday] and handed over a letter, in which I expressed my regrets for my conduct [in the November 10 meeting] and for hurting Advani. I have left the decision [on revocation of suspension] to Advani," Bharti told reporters after emerging from the 45-minute meeting.
Shortly after her return from Kedarnath on Tuesday, Bharti had a dinner meeting with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Her regret assumes significance in the context of her earlier letter to Advani and Vajpayee, in which she said she was prepared to apologise provided the party also regretted its act of terming her behaviour at the November 10 meeting as indiscipline.
According to her, she had only raised ideological issues.
Bharti also distanced herself from a letter that surfaced on Thursday, which a Hindi magazine claimed she had written to Advani.
The letter attacked senior party leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, Pramod Mahajan, Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj. "It is a fake. I have not written any such letter," Bharti said. She said she was consulting her lawyers on possible legal action in this regard.
