The Bihar government on Wednesday effected a major reshuffle in the police setup of the state ahead of the assembly polls due early next year.
It transferred 37 Indian Police Service officers, including two inspectors general, four deputy IGs and several superintendents of police.
IG (Patna zone) A C Verma will replace his Darbhanga counterpart Cima Limchen, who will be the new IG (Patna), the state home (police) department said in a notification.
DIG of Saran range Ganesh Prasad Yadav has been posted as DIG (Cabinet Vigilance Department), Patna, while DIG (Magadh range) P A K Beck will take charge of Saran range.
DIG (Patna) Sunil Kumar has been posted as DIG (Magadh range). DIG (Headquarters) A K Verma will be the new DIG of Patna.
The police superintendents of Saran, Kishanganj, Banka, Nalanda and Khagaria have also been shifted. The government has also transferred 27 officials of the deputy superintendent rank.
The officials have been asked to move immediately after handing over charge to their juniors and report at the new posting by Thursday and send a compliance report.
The Election Commission had recently directed the state government to remove 'tainted' officials who were barred from election duty during the Lok Sabha polls early this year. It also ordered the shifting of officials who had not been transferred for at least three years.
