Nearly 300,000 non-gazetted state government employees in Bihar went on an indefinite strike from Friday morning demanding fulfillment of their seven-point demand.

Most of the organisations of government employees are backing the agitation. Among other things, the employees are seeking an increase in retirement age to 60 years from the existing 58.

Functioning of the secretariat, collectorates, sub-divisional and block level government offices were affected.

However, Chief Secretary K A H Subramanian said that the government is capable of carrying on with its business despite the strike. He had invited representatives of employees' unions for a dialogue but they apparently rejected the offer.
