Train services on the busy grand chord section linking Delhi to Kolkata were disrupted for several hours when Communist Party of India (Maoist) Naxalites blasted a culvert and railway cabin in Bihar's Rohtas district around midnight on Sunday.
The Naxalites had planted the bombs under the culvert near Krabandiya Gumti, about five km from Sasaram station, in the Gaya-Mughalsarai section of the East Central Railway, sources said.
They said the Naxalites detonated the explosives after holding the cabin man captive.
Gaya-Mughalsarai and Asansol-Varanasi passenger trains were cancelled, while three important trains - Howrah-New Delhi express, Jammu Tawi express and Dehradun express were diverted due to the blast, the sources said.
Two powerful bombs and over 25 detonators were recovered from the incident site, they said.
The Naxalites left leaflets claiming responsibility for the blast.
The leaflets said the blast was to protest against the proposed Patna rally of the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal on December 23 and also the state government's decision to ban their December eight rally in Sasaram.
