Over 100 armed services personnel were killed when the killer tsunami rocked Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Sunday, Real Admiral Rakesh Kala, Chief of Staff, Triservices Command, said on Monday.

He said the dead personnel were stationed at the Car Nicobar Island, which is one of the worst hit. The Indian Air Force base at Carnic was also hit, he said.

Meanwhile, defence sources in Delhi said that six naval ships, including the INS Gharial,  have left for Sri Lanka with relief material.

The island nation, one of the worst hit by tsunami, declared a state of emergency on Sunday and had sought India's help in relief and rescue operations.
