Ravi said he was trying to contact Muraleedharan to gather more details about the development.
Asked if the party is also in touch with Karunakaran, he said: "Yes, the party high command is trying to contact Karunakaran."
Asked if the party has split in Kerala, Ravi said: "They [Karunakaran and other rebels] have never declared that they are leaving the party. They have only said that they would be contesting separately."
In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala Chief Minister A K Antony too sounded hopeful that Karunakaran would come around.
"I am optimistic that the party will not split," he told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
He said Muraleedharan has told him that he would not be a part of the move to split the party.
