President A P J Abdul Kalam on Wednesday night congratulated the Indian cricket team for their splendid win in the One Day International series between India and Pakistan.

"May I congratulate you on your hard-earned series victory today," Kalam said.

"When 11 players play together, victory is certain. There is no reason for victory to elude us when 100 crore people take a pledge," Prime Minister Vajpayee said.

"The matches have brought smiles to everyone in India. You have not only won the series but also have won the hearts of the peoples of our subcontinent," Kalam said in a message addressed to captain Sourav Ganguly and conveyed his best wishes to the team for the forthcoming Test series.

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani said, "It is a memorable victory and I will always remember it."

BJP spokesman Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi described the victory as a 'milestone in PM's peace initiative'.

"People of both the countries have enjoyed the game with sporting spirit, there is no tension in both the countries but only a feel good feeling," he said.
