Senior Chinese leader arrives in Delhi

As part of ongoing high-level political exchanges, Senior Chinese leader Tang Jiaxuan today commenced a three-day visit to India Monday for talks to promote bilateral ties and discuss regional, international and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

Tang, State Councillor and former Foreign Minister, will hold wide-ranging discussions with External Affairs Minister K Natwar Singh here Tuesday, during which they will review recent developments in India-China relations and exchange views on the further improvement of these ties.

The Chinese leader, who arrived here from Pakistan, will also call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and have meetings with National Security Adviser J N Dixit and Leader of Opposition L K Advani.

Tang is leading a high-level delegation which includes Vice Foreign Minister Wu Dawei, Deputy Secretary General of the State Council, Chen Jinyu, Vice Minister for Culture, Meng Xiaosi and President of the Exim Bank of China Yang Zilin.

His current visit, at the invitation of the Indian government, is "part of the continued high-level exchanges between India and China", the External Affairs Ministry said.
