The Bihar government is set to file a first information report against Gautam Goswami, a 1992 batch Indian Administrative Service officer and former Patna district magistrate, for his alleged role in defalcation and diversion of funds meant for flood relief in the state.
Goswami was featured in the Time magazine as a 'Young Asian Hero' for his exemplary work in reaching help to flood victims in Bihar last year.
The vigilance department is probing allegations that he and others diverted over Rs 17.5 crore.
Official sources said the government took the decision to file the FIR after Patna DM Sudhir Kumar submitted his inquiry report on Wednesday. Kumar has made it clear that funds meant for relief operation were diverted.
A senior government official told rediff.com on Friday that the FIR will be filed any time. "The draft of the FIR against Goswami is being prepared, " he said.
Sources said cases against Goswami will be filed under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of Indian Penal Code and Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Meanwhile, the vigilance department is expected to hand over the case to the district police.
