Sharad Yadav of the United Janata Dal has requested President A P J Abdul Kalam to recall Bihar Governor Buta Singh.
Yadav claimed that the governor was acting in a partial manner and was running the state administration according to the whims and fancies of Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Yadav.
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament House complex, Yadav questioned the manner in which Buta Singh was carrying out some of the key postings. He alleged that it was being done with a view to help the RJD/Congress alliance in the forthcoming Bihar elections.
"Buta Singh should be recalled immediately because he is allowing Lalu Yadav to run the administration through the backdoor. In Bihar, there is no Congress. Hence, whatever Buta Singh is doing is being carried out at the behest of Lalu Yadav," he alleged.
In fact, Yadav went a step ahead and asked the Election Commission to intervene and put an end to the postings of officers. "I am aware that the Election Commission can only intervene after the elections are called for in Bihar for electing a new state assembly. But they can direct the state government to stop unnecessary transfers and postings, particularly of senior IAS officers, as the Election Commission's job is to ensure free and fair polls," he said.
Gurudas Gupta, Communist Party of India leader, agreed with Yadav. "We are going to raise the issue in Parliament on Tuesday on the style of functioning of the governor of Bihar Buta Singh. We have asked for a report from our state unit that would come by the evening," the firebrand trade union leader said.
