The hearing of the Ram temple-Babri Masjid demolition case, in which senior Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including party president Lal Kishenchand Advani, are named as accused, was deferred to September 30.

The local Bar association is on strike.

As the case came up for hearing before the Special Judicial Magistrate V K Singh, the counsels for CBI and the defence informed the court that they would prefer to stay away from judicial work as a mark of solidarity with the local lawyers and sought a fresh date.

The court accepted their plea and posted the matter for further hearing on September 30.

The lawyers were on strike to protest alleged diversion of funds meant for construction of chambers of the advocates at the sessions court premises to the Collectorate by the district administration.
