A delegation of human rights activists and Delhi University teachers met Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Wednesday and demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the attempt on the life of S A R Geelani on Tuesday night.

Geelani, who was acquitted by the Delhi high court in the Parliament attack case, was shot at and injured by unidentified gunmen in Vasant Kunj area of New Delhi on Tuesday evening.

The delegation submitted a memorandum to Patil seeking his immediate attention to the lawlessness in the national capital.

"We met him and gave a memorandum seeking an independent inquiry, preferably by the CBI," human rights activist Gautam Naulakha said.
