Various Sikh groups on Thursday threatened to launch protests in Delhi if the government did not make the Nanavati Commission report on anti-Sikh riots public immediately.
The report was submitted to Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Wednesday.
"By not making the report public, the government has again opened the wounds of the Sikhs. Already, media reports have said the commission has given a clean chit to the Congress. Whatever the truth is, it should come out," said Kuldip Singh Bhogal, president, All India Riot Victims Relief Committee.
"If the home minister does not make the report public immediately, we will hold protests and dharnas outside his house," said Bhogal in a release.
Patil had said the report would be made public as per set procedures.
"There is a procedure which has to be followed when the inquiries are constituted, when the reports are submitted and when the reports are examined by the government," Patil said.
The Akali Dal (Badal) Delhi unit president Avtar Singh Hitt also threatened to launch a protest.
"It appears that the government wants to hide certain facts. First, there was a delay in completing the report, then in submitting it and now there is a delay in even making it public," said Akali Dal (Longowal) president Prem Singh Chandumajra.
"If the report does not come out before the public in two weeks, we will protest outside Parliament and the home minister's office," Chandumajra said.
"We are writing to the prime minister and the home minister urging them to make public the report so that the Sikh sentiments are not hurt," Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee General Secretary Ravinder Pal Singh Khurana said.
