Harry Potter fans in India experienced their share of magic as J K Rowling's sixth book Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released in stores across the country on Saturday.

The release of the book was advanced to 6.30 am from the scheduled 10.30 am in response to overwhelming requests from the awaiting Potter fans, according to a release of Penguin Books India, the distributor in India.

Advanced orders for the book in India were above 125,000 copies, which is more than double the number of advanced orders for the previous book in the series Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Leading bookstores in Delhi reported that the response to the book was overwhelming and that they have exhausted their first lots within hours of its release.

"We have received amazing response from the readers. We knew that the book would do well, but we did not expect such an amazing response. We have exhausted our first lot within three hours," said Priya Jaggi, Brand Manager with a leading chain of book stores.
