The Election Commission is set to use specially developed computer software to identify duplicate voters—voters whose names figure at two places in voters lists-- before the forthcoming assembly polls in Bihar, EC advisor K J Rao said on Friday.
"We would easily identify voters who have registered in more than one place," said Rao.
He said the software would separate such names enlisted in the computer on the basis of father's name and age.
Rao said those voters found guilty would be served notices.
He told rediff.com that all such names detected in voters list would be struck off to "make our goal of conducting free and fair polls possible".
He said the population to electoral rolls ratio would also be verified and added that scientific formulae have been chalked out for the purpose.
Rao is heading a nine-member EC team currently on a five-day visit to Bihar to review poll arrangements.
He has already directed the district administrations in state to issue the photo-identity card by September 15 in view of EC's 'No photo identity card, no vote' diktat.
