Six persons, including local Bharatiya Janata Party legislator of the dissolved assembly, were injured in a clash that ensued during a BJP protest against irregular power supply in Patna, official sources said.
"The protest turned violent when Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha activists, assembled in front of the Bihar State Electricity Board office, started throwing stones at the building and injured two security guards," Director (Security) of BSEB R N Rai said.
However, BJP sources deny the allegations. They claim that their men were peacefully demonstrating when the board staff locked the main gates and threw stones at them, injuring leader Navin Sinha, District BJP Youth Wing president Satyendra Kushwaha and a few others.
Sinha was rushed to the nearby government hospital. Doctors said his condition was stable.
After nearly 10 minutes of clash, the police arrived on the scene and chased the protestors away, the sources added.
Additional police force has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure, they said.
The BSEB officials said while the state needs a minimum of 995 MW of power, the supply currently is around 700-730 MW.
All major business and residential areas in Patna, barring VVIP areas, have been facing 12-15 hour power cuts everyday.
