The drafts of bills against domestic violence and harassment of women at work places are ready and are likely to be tabled in the next session of Parliament, National Commission for Women chairperson Girija Vyas said on Friday.

"The drafts have been submitted to the government," she told reporters.

Vyas was inaugurating an educational counselling and career seminar for women organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi.

She added that the Union government has already reviewed the draft of the harassment bill and has consulted NCW while studying the domestic violence bill.

While maintaining that the bills will provide respite to many women, the NCW chairperson said there is also a need to counsel men to change their perception of women.

Vyas also sought an adequate review of the Indian Penal Code to bring under its purview cases of harassment at work places. "We are seeking stringent penalties for harassment of women at work places and for domestic violence, depending on the nature of the crime," she said.
