Bihar government on Tuesday ordered a probe into the use of cell phone by Santosh Kumar Jha, accused in the multi-crore flood-relief scam in Bihar, for threatening his estranged wife Rachna Jha and her brother Chandan Jha from Patna's Beur Jail.

Chandan claimed that Santosh has been threatening them to withdraw their police complaint for the last month. Santosh reportedly said he would kill them if we didn't withdraw the complaints.

This incident proved that Santosh is allowed to use cell phones inside the jail despite the Supreme Court directive against the use of mobiles inside prisons.

Governor Buta Singh has ordered a probe into it, official sources said.

However, state Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha claimed they didn't find any cell phone with Santosh. "We did search him (Santosh) but didn't find anything. He even denied threatening his wife and brother-in-law," he told rediff.com.

He added that the police has initiated action for seizing mobile phones being used by the inmates of Beur jail. Sinha admitted that mobile phones were smuggled inside the jail with the help of certain jail officials.

However, the DGP said a permanent solution to debar the prisoners from using cell phones lies in the installation of the jammer. Sinha said the state has been in touch with the Centre regarding this.

Chandan in his complaint said Rachna has been demanding custody of her two children, who Santosh has forcibly kept at an undisclosed place.
