The axe is likely to fall on yet another controversial Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Sudheendra Kulkarni, political secretary to party president Lal Kishenchand Advani, as part of a compromise formula with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in the wake of the political storm created by the Jinnah controversy.
Sources in the Sangh Parivar indicated that some action may be taken against Kulkarni after the RSS meeting in Surat beginning on July 2.
This is understood to have been decided at the recent meetings between leaders of BJP and RSS.
Kulkarni, who may be dropped from the BJP national executive, attracted adverse attention during Advani's Pakistan tour with detractors in the party and the RSS accusing him of having "misled" Advani on the speeches he made there. Later, he was also attacked for the views he propounded in a paper he presented at an intellectual gathering in Bhopal on how the BJP should adopt an inclusive approach towards Muslims.
Four senior BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu, Rajnath Singh, Bal Apte and Sanjay Joshi met RSS joint general secretary Suresh Soni on Monday apparently to work out the compromise formula to end bitterness between the sister organisations.
