Documents seized from the three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants, who were killed in an encounter in New Delhi on Saturday, have revealed that they planned to carry out suicide attacks at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun, Delhi police said on Sunday.
The militants, including two Pakistani nationals, were killed at Suraj Vihar in Uttam Nagar.
According to reports, the militants had visited Bangalore and surveyed the location of several software companies in December 2004, Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh said.
"They planned to hit these companies in an effort to hinder the economic development of the country," he said.
The Pakistani militants had been identified as Bilawal (24) and Shahnawaz (25), while Shams, alias Pervez Ahmed (26), was a resident of Patna.
The JCP said Bilawal's Pakistani ID card and passport had been recovered from the site of the encounter, which showed he had recently visited the United Arab Emirates and Nepal.
The encounter followed the arrest of two of their associates, one of whom had arrived from Jammu with a cache of ammunition.
According to Singh, the police got a tip-off that Hamid Hussain, alias Abu Faisal, would deliver a consignment of explosives from Jammu and Kashmir to his associate Mohammad Sariq (24) at Makarba Chowk in Delhi.
A team of special cell caught the duo and found 10.5 kg RDX in Hamid's bag.
On interrogation, Hamid disclosed he had been bringing consignments for militants holed up in a house in Suraj Vihar.
The special cell team surrounded the house at around 9 pm but the militants opened fire. Police returned fire. The three militants were killed in the gun battle, which lasted about an hour.
Three AK-56 rifles, six magazines, 100 kg of gelatin sticks, 450 detonators, four hand grenades, a satellite phone and Rs 24,500 in cash was recovered from the spot.
The police found several money transaction documents, bank accounts and information about IMA after raiding two hideouts -- Batla House and Zakir Nagar in South Delhi.
Several diaries, which contained encoded telephone numbers and e-mail addresses, have also been recovered and efforts are on to decode them.
