All the Congress members of Legislative Assembly from Goa, led by former chief minister Pratapsinh Rane, met All India Congress Committee chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Wednesday and claimed majority in the state Assembly.

"In all, 22 of us (including 18 MLAs) met party chief and presented our view that we have majority in the state assembly," Rane told reporters after meeting Gandhi at her Parliament House office.

The Centre on March four had brought Goa under President's rule shortly after Rane won a controversial trust vote in the House, capping a month of high-voltage political drama in the state.

The delegation would also meet President A P J Abdul Kalam to apprise him of their viewpoint, he said.

Rane declined to comment when asked if he considered the imposition of President's rule a mistake in view of the fact that he had won the confidence vote in the House.
