The National Democratic Alliance may call off its plan for a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

The decision was taken after the Speaker suggested a Presidential reference on a Supreme Court directive to hold a confidence vote in the Jharkhand Assembly on Friday.

The Centre had told Chief Minister Shibu Soren to resign after the assembly was adjourned without holding the vote.

"We may not move the motion. A decision will be taken at a meeting of NDA leaders on Monday," party Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told journalists in New Delhi on Saturday.

He added, "We are not against him (Chatterjee). We are against the manner in which Soren was installed as chief minister."

"We wonder why the Centre remained a silent spectator while the governor made a mockery of the Constitution," Naqvi said.
