Bihar will get a new legislation to check crime on the lines of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime in April, state chief secretary K A H Subramanian said on Wednesday.

Subramanian, who is also acting advisor to Governor Buta Singh, told rediff.com on that the new legislation will be with the state administration within a week.

State Director General of Police Narayan Mishra confirmed the proposal and said there were some provisions in MCOCA, which will be effective in Bihar.

He added that the state police are studying the Maharashtra law to put up a solid case for a similar law in Bihar.

With the state under President's rule, there is intense pressure on the police to bring the crime rate down.
