An assistant sub inspector of police of Bihar police has been arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for having four wives in violation of service rules.

The Bettiah district police arrested the ASI, Ganesh Sah, and sent him to Hajipur jail in Vaishali district.

Official sources said Sah, who was posted in Bettiah police station, had married four women during his posting at different places across state in the last ten years. He was about to marry a young girl in Bettiah when his fourth wife Ramnadini Devi lodged a complaint with Bettiah district Superintendent of Police M R Naik about it.

"After Sah's fourth wife lodged a complaint with Naik, he ordered Sah to be arrested," a source said.

Naik had also initiated departmental proceedings against Sah. This is first such reported case when a police official has been arrested for marrying more than one woman.
