After a series of warnings to the government to stay away from a vote on Iran nuclear issue, the Left parties said on Friday that their stand vis-a-vis the United Progressive Alliance coalition would be decided after the meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency board of governors later this month.
The UPA government would have to explain its stand in Parliament, as also at the UPA-Left coordination committee ahead of the winter session, they said.
"The Left parties are interested in what stand the government takes at the meeting of the IAEA meeting on Iran's nuclear programme later this month," Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Prakash Karat told reporters, after a meeting of the Left parties, which discussed the strategy for the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
He said the Left Front would decide on its stand on the issue after the government makes its position clear at the IAEA meeting in Vienna. The Left parties would also raise the issue of strengthening security in Jammu and Kashmir, which has witnessed a spate of attacks over the last few days.
Karat said the Left parties were in favour of the government introducing the Women's Reservation Bill and the Scheduled Tribes Forest Rights Protection Bill. Besides these, the Left parties will also discuss in Parliament, farmers' problems and increase in prices of essential commodities.
Asked about the stand of the Left parties on the Pensions Bill, Karat said the Left Front MPs had already submitted dissent notes to the Standing Committee discussing the draft legislation.
