Former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi on Wednesday night suffered a heart attack and was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi.

Jogi, 59, is believed to be in a serious condition and is admitted in the Intensive Care Unit wing of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

He was rushed to the hospital late at night after he complained of chest pain, hospital sources said.

Jogi suffered the attack around 10:30 PM and was rushed to the hospital.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has rushed to the hospital along with her political secretary Ahmad Patel and some other party leaders, according to party sources.

Jogi met with a near fatal accident during campaigning tour of Mahasamund constituency for the Lok Sabha election in April 2004, which paralysed both his legs making him wheelchair-bound.

The former Chief Minister had a by-pass surgery earlier also and had been under medical supervision and various therapies after the accident.

Jogi's doctor wife Renu is at the hospital with him.

Earlier this month, several party MLAs from the state had demanded that Jogi, the first Chief Minister of the state formed in 2000, be included in the Union Cabinet as a representative of Chhattisgarh.

Jogi's son Amit is in jail in connection to murder of an NCP leader.
